"I Have Autism - If I am alone Call 911"

Hugs & High Fives Everyone:

Summer time is a big deal for my household! Aside from the planned summer vacations that must be scheduled around ESY (Extended School Year) classes for my daughter, we are out and about a lot more at this time of year!

We recently attended a safety fair that was hosted by the local Police Academy in my city. These neat T-shirts were given to us for our family members who have autism. On the back of the shirt, there is a logo for the police department. We have not used this shirt yet, but with a big event like tomorrow's annual Fireworks display, there is great opportunity to rock it!

Having a pretty tall non-verbal 10 year-old can be confusing for some people. Most people see her out with me and they immediately began asking her how she is doing and speaking with her. I answer a few questions and then after the third or fourth question I let them know that she has autism.

I always hear the same reaction: "She doesn't look like she has autism!"

For that very reason, this shirt is such a savior. I fear that if she did not have this shirt on and got lost in a public setting, she would go unnoticed for a long time. Do you all have shirts like this for your loved ones? Where did you get them? No matter what you do, have a very happy and safe holiday! ~Sincerely, "Pump" noun :a shoe that grips the foot chiefly at the toe and heel; especially :a close-fitting woman's dress shoe with a moderate to high heel
